Optimized Tillage Methods for Papaya Farming:
Soil Preparation for Papaya Cultivation: Soil preparation plays a crucial role in ensuring a high yield in papaya farming. To achieve optimal soil conditions, three key tillage methods should be followed:
1. First Tillage:
Begin by ploughing the soil in the longitudinal direction using a five-furrow or plate plough. This method allows sunlight to directly reach the soil, enhancing soil fertility and controlling weeds effectively.
2. Second Tillage:
The second ploughing should be done in the transverse direction with a cluster plough (9 furrows). This improves the soil's water retention capacity and enhances aeration, promoting better root growth.
3. Third Tillage:
Finally, use a rotary plough or rotavator to thoroughly pulverize and level the soil. During this stage, incorporate humus manure and mix it well with the soil. This step will further increase soil fertility and provide essential nutrients for healthy crop growth, preparing the soil for planting.
Note: The first, second, and third ploughing should be spaced 10 days apart to ensure proper soil conditioning.
